    Large commercial trucks may pose a greater threat out on Dallas road ways than your smaller average vehicle. Response in truck braking is sometimes a factor in these types of collisions. Loaded down rigs can take quite a bit farther than cars to stop by a margin of 20 to 40 percent. This condition can be worsened can be by wet and slippery roads or with poorly maintained brakes and equipment. Truck driver fatigue also poses an increased crash risk. Driver’s commercial trucks are allowed to drive up to 11 hours at a time legally. However, research indicates that some drivers violate this regulation.

    According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), there were 3,986 truck crash fatalities in 2016. Of those deaths, seventeen percent were truck occupants, while 66 percent were in cars, and the remaining 16 percent were pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists. The number of people who die in large truck crashes has been on the rise, as fatalities were 27 percent higher in 2016 than in 2009.
