Elderly Couple Struck On Canada Road
Two people were hit on Canada Drive early Saturday by an alleged hit-and-run driver. CBS reported on the incident.
According to the report, two older people were working to get into a vehicle. A man was helping a woman with a walker enter the car around 3:30 in the morning. A driver crashed into them and their vehicle, killing the woman and injuring the man.
After the crash, the man walked away from the scene but was later found in a levee by police. He has been charged. Police do not know yet why the crash happened.
Canada Drive runs along the Trinity River. Several residential areas are alongside it. Helping someone with a walker get into a car can take up a lot of space on the roadway, and given the late hour they may have been hard to see. But that doesn’t excuse the other driver for what happened.
At the very least, he should have stayed at the accident scene and attempt to get help. Running away from an accident will only make things much worse for you. Better to take responsibility than have it pushed upon you by the authorities.
If you’ve been the victim of a hit-and-run accident, contact the police and then contact a personal injury attorney for advice.
