One Person Dead After A Roll-Over Crash In Stolen Vehicle

According to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority of the Texas DMV, approximately 65,000 cars and trucks are stolen within our state, with an additional 200,000 vehicles burglarized every year. Often, vehicle owners will forget to lock their vehicles or even leave keys inside the ignition. Such poor habits can be an open invitation to would-be thieves.

That may have been what happened recently when a 25-year-old man was killed in an accident in Geauga County over the weekend. Fox News in Dallas reports that the accident happened on Sunday Morning along Bass Road and Route 87 near the township of Newbury.

Authorities in Geauga County say that sheriff’s deputies spotted a car matching the description of one that had previously been reported stolen in Russell Township.

The deputies reported that the car driver had been going more than 100 miles per hour and was passing other vehicles by going off the road and onto the shoulder. Deputies pursued the vehicle.

A short distance from where the stolen car was spotted, the male driver lost control of the vehicle, and it became airborne as it rolled over.  The driver was ejected from the car.  Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and declared the 25-year-old driver dead at the scene of the accident.

His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.

Route 87 was closed for most of the morning while the crash scene was investigated and debris cleared from the road.

The fatal crash is still currently under investigation.
