Good Samaritans Save A Life In Multi-Vehicle Crash In Dallas

The Dallas Police Department has publicly praised a group of Good Samaritans for helping to save the life of a motorist earlier this month.

The Andover Leader reported on its website that the 6-vehicle crash happened on the night of September 19th. One of the vehicles had caught fire.

The fire was already engulfing the vehicle when three officers with the Dallas Police Department, Israel Bonales, Jonathan Calder, and Jonathan Martinez, responded to the scene.

Martinez told reporters that he had heard witnesses in the area say, “There’s someone in the car! There’s someone in the car!”

The officers attempted to rescue the man from the burning vehicle, but the intense heat from the flames, the smoke, and melting components of the car drove them back.

Another man in the vicinity, noting that the seatbelt of the burning vehicle was stuck, cut the belt and pulled the man out of the car.

The motorist suffered severe and extensive burns and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. His identity and current condition had not been released by the time of the report.

Officer Martinez told reporters that if it had been just the three officers at the scene without the actions of the good Samaritans, the outcome might have been far different.

“It was the combination of the citizens putting their lives on the line, getting closer to that car, helping pull the gentleman out of the car, using water, using resources that they had,” Martinez said.

Officer Calder added by saying, “Without the citizens of Dallas, we wouldn’t have been able to successfully save him. So I thank them for that.”

The accident is still currently under investigation. So far, it is unknown what led to the multi-vehicle crash.
