A Woman Looks For Five Good Samaritans Who Saved Her And Son’s Life
For one mother in Fort Worth, however, finding the five people responsible for saving her son’s life over the weekend and thanking them was important.
NBCDFW reports that on Saturday, August 31st, Destinye Guevara received a call that her 16-year-old son, Karsen, was in the hospital and on a ventilator at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. In addition to a broken arm and pelvis, Karsen had skull fractures and some bleeding in his brain.
According to official reports, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Karsen was driving his pickup truck along Interstate 30 between Weatherford and White Settlement when he lost control, crashed through a guardrail, and plunged down a 50-foot embankment.
When briefed by doctors and law enforcement, Guevara found that five people who had witnessed the crash pulled her son from the wreckage of his truck.
If it weren’t for them, he probably would not be here today,” she told NBC.
Because no one knew who the five Good Samaritans were, Guevara made a post on Facebook, hoping that someone knew who the five people were so that she could thank them for saving her son’s life.
It was social media that helped her to locate Brandon Jorgensen, one of the five individuals who pulled Karsen from the wreckage of his mangled pickup truck.
Jorgensen said that he had been just yards away when he saw Karsen lose control on the rain-slickened highway.
“Everybody’s always in need of help,” Jorgensen said. “And it comes down to a point when you can’t react; you have to just act and react to it later, because reacting can cost someone their life.”
Though none of the Good Samaritans exchanged names after the incident, Guevara is determined to find the other four people who gave aid to her son so that she can thank them personally.
“I want them to realize that when my son graduates high school or gets married or has his own children that it’s because of their good hearts and what they did,” she said.
