A Fatal Crash On I-30 Is Under Investigation

A crash involving two vehicles happened early Tuesday morning in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 near the Interstate 635 exit leaving one person dead.

According to a story appearing on the NBCDFW website in Dallas, the fatal crash happened just east of Gus Thompson and west of Galloway Avenue at approximately 5:00 a.m.

A spokesperson for the Mesquite Police Department told reporters that a car became pinned underneath a semi-trailer rig. The driver of the smaller vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The name of the deceased driver was withheld at the time of the report pending notification of family members.

No other people were injured in the accident.

The driver of the big rig stayed at the accident site and is said to be in full cooperation with the authorities.

Police and fire crews closed off the ramp connecting Interstate 30 to Interstate 635 while the accident scene was investigated, leaving morning commuters to be rerouted for several hours. The road re-opened later on in the day.

The fatal crash is currently under investigation by police and DPS investigators. No charges have been filed against the truck driver.  Authorities have not said whether impairment may have played any role in the accident.

This is a developing story.
