Three Die In A Blazing Wrong-Way Crash Near The Hwy 337 Exchange

A wrong-way driver is being blamed for the deaths of a man, a woman, and a little girl in Haltom City on Sunday night.

The CBS affiliate in Dallas–Fort Worth, CBSDFW, reported on its website that the two-vehicle crash happened at approximately 8:35 p.m. within the 5400 block of Loop 820 near the Highway 377 exchange.

Authorities say that a blue Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Loop 820 near Denton Highway when it collided with a grey BMW heading eastbound. The force of the impact caused the BMW sedan and the Chevy pickup to burst into flame.

Officers with the Haltom Police Department arrived at the scene of the crash. Inside the burning BMW, they found that a man, woman, and a little girl were still inside. Officers were able to pull two of the passengers out of the BMW but were unable to reach the third before the flames became too intense. All three occupants of the BMW were reported to have died at the scene. Their names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

The wrong-way driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to the trauma center at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. He is listed with life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for the Holton City Police Department said in a statement that they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The fatal crash is currently under investigation.
