Street Race Ends In Car Fire, Fatality

Street racing is on the rise around the country; however, but no matter where you go, it’s still illegal, and it can cost participants their license, their vehicle, their freedom, and even their life. While movies and social media might glorify the excitement of street racing,  what they don’t tell you is that it risks innocent lives and puts them at risk for severe injury or death.

The NBC affiliate in Dallas Fort Worth, station NBCDFW  reported on its website that a woman has died after a fiery crash during a street race on Wednesday, August 19th.

According to a statement released by law enforcement officials, the crash happened at approximately 10:45 p.m. near the Fort Worth Zoo at the intersection of University Drive and Log Cabin Village Lane.

Eyewitnesses to the incident told police that a woman was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident. Those who were at the scene said that the woman was racing another car when her vehicle hit a curb and crashed.  The other vehicle involved in the race left the scene of the fiery crash.

By the time emergency crews responded to the 911 calls at the scene, the car was fully engulfed in flames.  Investigators combed through the charred wreckage of the vehicle and confirmed there was only one person in the vehicle. The identity of the woman has not been released pending notification of family members.

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Fort Worth Police Department at (817) 392-4200.
