Woman And Children Fleeing Domestic Violence Caught In Crash

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), every minute of every day in the United States, 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner.  Every day, domestic violence hotlines across the country receive more than 20,000 calls from abuse victims.

CBS Local in Dallas – Fort Worth reports that a woman, along with her four children, were fleeing domestic violence when she crashed her vehicle early Saturday morning. Two children were hospitalized after the crash, with one of them now on life support.

According to a statement issued by the Dallas Police Department, the single-vehicle crash happened at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15th, in the 4600 block of Jefferson Avenue.

The woman, along with a male passenger and four children ranging in age from 2 -13 years old, were inside the SUV while she was trying to get away from a domestic violence suspect who was chasing her out of Grand Prairie.

Investigators say that the vehicle rolled several times, and a 7-year-old and 10-year old child were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The 10-year-old is listed in serious condition but is stable. The 7-year-old is reported to be on life support.

Officials did not release the condition of the woman, the man, or the other children who were in the vehicle at the time.

The accident is still currently under investigation. No arrests were indicated at the time of the report.
