Arrest Made In Fatal DUI Case In Carrollton

Police in Carrollton have arrested a man in connection to a crash last month that left one man dead and his teen son severely injured.

CBS Local in Dallas–Fort Worth reports that Carrollton Police have arrested 39-year-old Luis Alexis Fonseca Acosta for his role in a crash that happened on the morning of Friday, July 24th.

According to a statement released by the Carrollton Police Department, the fatal crash happened at the intersection of West Rosemeade Parkway and Greenway Park Drive at approximately 8:00 a.m.

An investigation revealed that Acosta was traveling at between 80 and 86 miles an hour when his Chevrolet Camaro collided with an SUV.  The posted speed limit in the area is 40 miles per hour.

Emergency crews responded to the accident and declared 67-year-old Shamsuddin Jooma dead at the scene of the crash. Jooma’s 17-year-old son, who was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  The teen was reported to be still recovering in the hospital at the time of the report.

Acosta remained at the scene of the fatal crash and cooperated with officers.  Speed was determined to have been a factor in the crash. Investigators have not said whether impairment by drugs or alcohol played any role.

Acosta is now facing several charges, including vehicular manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police have added an additional charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon after police officers found a gun in his vehicle.
