A Plan Crashes In The Yard Of A Home In Harris Count, Injures Two People

A small aircraft crash-landed in a residential area in Harris County on Tuesday, ending up in the yard of a home and leaving two people injured.

CBS Local in Dallas reports that on Tuesday, July 28th at approximately 2:00 a.m., firefighters from the Cypress-Fairbanks Fire Department and Harris County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene to find a single-engine plane in the yard of a home in the Bear Creek neighborhood.

During the crash, the Piper PA-28 Cherokee had both of its wings sheered off. Investigators say that the plane crashed into a tree and a pole before coming to a stop.  The pilot of the aircraft and a passenger were both injured in the crash.  They were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. One of the men had severe injuries.  Doctors expect both men to recover.

No one inside the home was injured in the crash.

In a statement, officials said that the plane originated in Tyler and was en route to Sugar Land.  Initial investigations of the crash indicate that the aircraft began to lose altitude when flying over western Harris County.

According to registration information, the plane is owned by an aircraft rental company and flight school based in Sugar Land.

The crash is still under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.  An in-depth examination into the cause of the crash will likely be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Bureau (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
