Prosecutors Disappointed In Fatal DUI Sentencing

A woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for killing a mother and an infant in a crash, but prosecutors are disappointed in the result. Swoknews.com reported on the incident.

The prosecutors had asked for 25-year sentences for both counts of first-degree manslaughter. However, the judge decided to give Cheyenne Castillo, a 22 year old woman from Arlington, Texas, a five year sentence instead. She also received a five year deferred sentence for other charges in the case, including DUI. She had no plea deal, but threw herself at the mercy of the court.

At the time of the crash, she was under the influence of opiates when she drove into oncoming traffic. Her sentencing has been delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. A restitution hearing is planned for August.

Ultimately, it is up to judges and the law to decide sentences and compensation in cases. Sometimes it’s more than enough. Other times it’s not as much as we would like or even need. If you’re seeking compensation in a civil suit, this is why you need a persuasive lawyer on your side to convince the judge that you deserve the true amount of money your case is worth.

If you are injured, after seeking medical care and making a report to the police, seek out a personal injury lawyer next for advice.
