Drunk Driver Hits Cop Cars Assisting In Accident

An accident on I-35 East tangled up two officers as they were assisting the scene of another accident. CBS reported on the crash, which involved a drunk driver.

The accident happened in the early morning hours at the Marvin D. Love Freeway split. The officers were assisting with another crash by blocking the freeway with their cars.

A young driver traveling southbound didn’t move over and hit one of the cars at a high rate of speed. It pushed the police cruiser into two officers, who suffered mild injuries. Two passengers in the vehicle also suffered injuries.

When the woman was questioned, she was deemed drunk and arrested for intoxication assault.

While it can be hard at night to see a stopped car, police vehicles have flashing lights for a reason. They cut through the dark and show other cars where they are. But if you’re drunk, you can lose depth perception and judgement.

This accident could have been much worse. Had the crusier been pushed directly into the officers it could have been fatal. The passengers would have also sustained more injuries, and possibly the drunk driver as well.

We hope that those who were injured recover quickly and that the responsible driver learns her lession.
