Car Rolls While Speeding, Kills One, Injures Three

Some drivers think it’s okay to speed when there are few cars on the road because there’s no one to crash into. That’s a mistake. High rates of speed can cause you to lose control of a car and crash into poles or buildings, or even cause the car to flip over like in this case. CBS reports.

Just after 10 PM on April 11, a car carrying multiple passengers was speeding at Hardrock Road and Trinity Boulevard. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control. The car began to flip over.

When the car finished rolling, three people were injured and a fourth was killed. The injured people are expected to survive. Police are still investigating the incident.

When you’re driving, there are always three forces in play, acceleration, braking, and turning. If these forces are pushed too far, rollovers can happen. These usually happen while turning. The centrifugal force on the car is too much to handle and causes a flip.

These accidents are dangerous because the roof of a car is the least-protected part of a vehicle. It’s easy to crush with the force of a rolling car. Furthermore, safety restraints are designed with lateral impacts in mind, not vertical ones.

Even if there are no cars around, don’t speed too fast, especially with turns involved.
