Car Found Pinned Under Cab Of Big Rig In Melissa

Crashes with big rigs are dangerous for many reasons. First, their large size makes them heavy, and heavier things hit with more force. Even large pickup trucks stand little chance of withstanding a big rig crash.

But there’s another reason. Truck trailers ride high to the ground, which creates a gap that some cars can fit underneath. If this happens, the crash forces do not go into the front bumper but through the windshield. This has deadly results for the people in the car.

This happened recently in the city of Melissa. Last Friday, on the Sam Rayburn Highway, a car was found pinned underneath the cab of an 18-wheeler according to CBSDFW. The driver died at the scene.

Police are unsure why the car was pinned under the truck, but weather does not seem to be a factor. Toxicology tests are sure to follow. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Crashes like this are why you need to keep your distance as much as possible from trucks and make sure they see you before you try to pass them.  The more space you can give them, the safer you will be, and the more opportunity you’ll have to get out of the way should they not see you.
