    55 Year Sentence Handed Down In Bus Driver Crash

    Just a year after the anniversary which marks a horrific accident that happened in New Braunfels leaving 13 church parishioners dead, the man responsible for the crash is due to be sentenced.

    According to a news story on the NBC affiliate station in Dallas- Fort Worth’s website, Jack Dillon Young, 21, of Leakey will learn what the final outcome of his case will be.

    Young is currently facing up to 270 years in prison after having pleaded no contest to the charges of 13 counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.

    In March of 2017, Young was driving his pickup truck on Highway 83 near Uvalde his vehicle struck a church van from First Baptist Church of New Braunfels. The van was carrying senior citizen congregants who were returning from a 3-day church retreat in Leakey. Investigators determined that Young had been driving while under the influence of both a prescription medication and marijuana when one of the worst highway fatalities in Texas history occurred.

    Officials say that the final hearings regarding sentencing in the case are expected to last for the remainder of the week.

    Update: After an emotional three days of testimony in court, news sources report that a Uvalde County Judge has sentenced Jack Dillon Young to 55 years in prison.

    During those three days, federal investigators said that the crash was the direct result of Young texting while driving and being under the influence of pills Also during the proceedings and just prior to his sentencing, Young apologized to the families of the victims for his role in the 2017 head-on collision.
