Power Steering Recall Issued By GM

General Motors has announced a voluntary recall of more than a million SUV’s and large pickup trucks sold in the U.S. because of issues with its power steering system.

According to a recent story, which appeared on the CBS affiliate station in Dallas-Fort Worth, the power-assisted steering system in these large vehicles can momentarily fail due to a voltage drop and then return again suddenly. GM said that the defect seems to occur most often when the vehicles are making slow-speed turns. So far there have been approximately 30 reports of crashes directly connected to the power-steering issue. Two people reported injuries in the power train crashes. So far there have been no fatalities.

A spokesperson for General Motors said that the recall covers certain models of 2015 model year Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks. The recall also applies to some models of Chevy Tahoe, Suburban and Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon SUV’s.

This is the second recall for General Motors vehicles for issues surrounding their power steering systems. Last year, GM cited similar issues for a recall for their 2014 model year pickup trucks and SUV’s.
