Teen Refuses To Stop For Police

Young drivers can be notoriously unpredictable when they get behind the wheel. Their lack of experience in the driver’s seat or their tendency to become distracted with cell phones or music players, for example, are major contributing factors for accidents involving teens.

In a story appearing on the CBS Local station in Dallas-Fort Worth, a 15-year-old Carrollton boy is facing charges after he failed to stop for law enforcement officers and then crashing the vehicle he was driving into a Carrollton Police cruiser.

A spokesperson with the Carrollton Police Department said that an officer with the department attempted to stop an SUV being driven by the teen at approximately 3:50 a.m. at the 2600 block of E. Trinity Mills Road.  The teen refused to stop and attempted to evade police. The teen ran a stop sign at the intersection Seedling Lane and Kelly Boulevard and struck a police squad car that had been called in for backup by the first police officer.

The impact caused the teen’s vehicle to flip onto the passenger side.  Both the teen and the assisting police sergeant were transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Both the teen and the officer were released from the hospital.

Also in the vehicle with the 15-year-old male driver were five girls aged 14 and younger. None of the girls were hurt in the crash.  Police indicate that the vehicle involved in the crash belonged to the mother of one of the girls and that the boy did not have permission from the owner to drive it.

The teen driver is now not only facing charges of felony evasion of police but may have to face additional charges in the case.
