Firetruck Crashes Into Sedan in Dallas
Four people were injured in a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a fire truck in Dallas Thursday morning.
According to an article that appeared on the NBCDFW website, a fire and rescue truck with the Dallas Fire Department was returning to the station at approximately 1:40 a.m. when it collided with a sedan. The accident happened in the 7000 block of Great Trinity Forest Way near Jim Miller Road.
According to a spokesperson with the Dallas Police Department, an 18-year-old woman who had been driving the passenger vehicle changed lanes and turned in past the emergency vehicle causing the fire truck to crash into the back of the sedan.
The driver of the sedan along with three other passengers who were in the car at the time of the crash were transported to Baylor University Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.
No firefighters were injured in the accident.
The names of those injured have not been released. Police say that they have not filed any charges nor are any charges currently pending against the driver of the sedan.
This young driver learned firsthand one of the most important lessons of driving: that of sharing the road with emergency vehicles. There are certain procedures in place to insure that the safety of everyone is insured while the emergency responders can get to their calls safely and quickly. Police cars, ambulances, fire trucks and other types of emergency vehicles also have the potential to be in or even cause accidents. In this case, however, it is unlikely that the fire truck had its lights or sirens on at the time. That can present a problem for insurance companies and who might have to pay for any damages or injuries after the accident.
