Hit-and-Run Involves Nine People In Crash

A hit-and-run driver is being blamed for injuring nine people in an incident in Fort Worth on Tuesday night. In a recent article appearing at NBCDFW.com, two of the people injured in the crash were children.

According to a spokesperson with the Fort Worth Police Department, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a driver crashed into a group of people as well as two vehicles that were at the intersection of southbound U.S. 287 and Elmwood Avenue. According to reports, the driver fled the scene of the multiple injury crash.

Of the people injured in the crash, one person is listed in critical condition with two others listed in serious condition. Authorities have not given any further details regarding those who were injured in the incident.

Police are still looking for the hit-and-run driver.

Getting into an accident can be terrifying, especially when there is major damage involved, or worse, when people are seriously hurt. No matter what state you are in, the law requires drivers involved in an accident to stay at the scene if they are involved in an accident. In the state of Texas, drivers must also render aid if at all possible. According to the Texas Transportation Code, Chapter 550, Section 550.021, leaving the scene of an accident is considered a third class felony and can carry stiff fines and jail time once a hit-and-run driver is caught and convicted.

It seems unconscionable that this driver left the scene of the crash. Once they are caught, when the case goes to court, a jury or judge is most likely going to side with the people who were hurt and the family because the driver callously left the scene. In the meantime, however, these accident victims and their families will have to try to piece their lives back together. This can present financial hardship for them in terms of hospital bills, ongoing medical costs and time off the job. It is at such a time when having the advice of a legal professional is vitally important.
