Affluenza Teen Extradited from Mexico

Through his attorney in Mexico, the so-called “affluenza teen”, Ethan Couch has dropped his appeal against deportation and will be returned to the state of Texas in order to face charges for parole violation and potentially be transferred from juvenile to adult court.

Couch, who received 10 years of probation after his involvement in a DUI accident that killed four people, ratified his decision to drop the appeal on Monday, Attorney Fernando Benitez said.

Ethan Couch and his mother were on the run but were later found at a resort in Puerto Vallarta in December and detained. Couch’s mother was returned to the U.S. where she was charged. Ethan Couch was held at an immigration center where he originally intended to fight extradition back to the U.S.

Benitez said that Couch opted not to continue with his constitutional appeal after reviewing his options. The attorney expects a judge to close the case Tuesday, which would clear the way for Couch’s extradition to be returned to Texas in a day or two.

A hearing for Couch is scheduled in Texas on February 19th and will determine whether or not Couch will be transferred to the adult system.
