Man With Hatchet Attacks Three in Walmart

    man-with-hatchet-attacks-three-in-walmart

Three people were injured at an East Texas Wal-Mart store when a transient man attacked them with a hatchet.

According to authorities, two female workers and a male shopper were attacked early Sunday by Christopher Hamilton of Crawford, Arkansas. Crawford had allegedly carried the hatchet into the store with him. So far, there is no clear motive for the attack. Police don’t believe Hamilton knows any of the victims.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. spokeswoman Betsy Harden says one worker was treated and released while the other should soon be discharged from a hospital. The customer was also slightly hurt when he attempted to assist the workers, however, he did not seek medical attention after the incident.

Hamilton has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a bond set at $225,000.

No one ever goes to work thinking that they may be hurt while they are there. While the holiday season can be hectic and can sometimes bring out the worst in people, certainly these workers had no idea that a personal injury on the job would be the result of such an attack. Workman’s compensation by law, will take care of the medical treatment for these types of injuries, but the expense of potential rehabilitative care, wages lost from having to miss work for a worker who cannot come back to work right away can be potentially devastating. Sometimes worker’s compensation claims or a claim can be denied for seemingly inexplicable reasons.
