Army Officer Dies in Parachuting Accident

    army-officer-dies-in-parachuting-accident

A senior Army officer from Mesquite died in a parachuting accident at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Though the Army has not confirmed his identity, friends and family confirmed via social media that Col. Darron Wright died on Monday. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Wright served as a deputy brigade commander in Iraq and was the first operations officer for the 7th Infantry Division.

He was the author of a memoir, “Iraq Full Circle” about his 2009 to 2010 tour of duty in the Middle East.

In statistics put out by The Parachute Association, in 2012, out of an estimated 3.1 million skydives, there were 19 fatalities. Fatalities attached to military parachuting are not included in these statistics. It is estimated, however, that the number of skydiving accidents in the military are much smaller than the civilian average.

Skydiving, when done correctly, is an exciting and relatively safe sport, but you can’t relax as even a small mistake in this activity could have serious or even fatal results. This sport is not without risk and skydiving and parachute accidents can and do happen. Many skydiving or parachute accident victims are catastrophically injured or even die as a result of equipment failure and malfunction or a poorly maintained parachute as well as many other reasons due to no fault of the jumper. Or a skydiver can be inexperienced, or not properly trained. When things go wrong, families and loved ones are left behind to pick up the pieces.

It can be difficult to determine what causes an accident, particularly if the accident involves a sport such as skydiving or parachuting. If you or a loved one has been involved in a skydiving or parachute accident, give our offices a call.  Medical expenses, long term rehabilitative care, pain and suffering and many other expenses can arise out of a personal injury accident such as ones attached to skydiving or parachuting.  Expenses can mount of quickly and cause a great deal of worry.
