Cyclist Killed in Hit and Run Accident
A bicyclist has been killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Northeast Dallas early Sunday. Police are looking for the motorist who is responsible for the man’s death. One witness saw an off-white or cream colored Chevrolet SUV hit the cyclist in the eastbound lanes near a Wal-Mart store in the 9300 block of Forest Lane at approximately 1:22 a.m.
Investigators say that the cyclist and his bicycle became airborne by the impact and landed face down on street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another witness did attempt to follow the suspect vehicle as it turned south on Abrams Road, but the vehicle eluded the second witness. The suspect vehicle is reported to have been travelling at a high of speed and ran several red lights.
Officials have not released the name of the victim pending notification of family.

This newly adopted legislation will place the failure to stop render aid in a deadly accident at the same level in terms of legal penalties as intoxication manslaughter attached to it. This makes this particular crime a second degree felony. This does not even include the fact that once the driver is found, they will more than likely also face a civil suit filed on behalf of the family of the victim. The courts will more often than not side with the family because of it being a hit-and-run case. To leave the scene of an accident is clearly a cowardly act.
