College Bus Strikes Utility Pole on the way to the Opener

A bus that was transporting TCU students to the Horned Frogs’ opening game with LSU struck a utility pole late Saturday afternoon, injuring nine passengers who were on board the bus.

TCU students were headed to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, where No. 20 TCU opens its 2013 season against the 12th-ranked LSU Tigers in the Cowboys Classic.

Official reports state that the bus accident occurred around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday in the 2500 block of South University Drive, approximately two blocks north of the Fort Worth campus.

The bus driver reportedly rolled the bus up onto the curb intentionally because of concerns about a perceived problem with the brakes on the bus.

According to a statement given by a MedStar spokesperson to local media, there had been approximately 50 people on board the chartered bus, operated by Dignity Outreach Center of Dallas. Four of the nine people that were hurt in the incident were transported to a local hospital to be checked out. No injuries were reported to be serious.

Parents worry enough when sending their kids off to college. In the course of school athletic events, no one ever imagines that there may be the chance of an accident or injury. Even if your child seems to be grown up, it still can be an unnerving and frightening experience for parents.

Each year, thousands of people are injured or even killed in accidents involving buses. Insurance companies who represent bus or transit companies would much rather deal with the claims of injured passengers directly. The last thing that they want is to have accident victims hire an experienced attorney, especially if the injuries are serious or there is a fatality involved.
