    DFR Engine Involved with Accident

A Dallas Fire and Rescue engine was involved in an accident on Monday afternoon. DFR spokesman Jason Evans said the accident involved Engine 46 and a small white sedan. The accident happened in front of the fire station located at 331 East Camp Wisdom Road.

The fire engine was responding to a different accident when the crash occurred.

According to Evans, the fire engine was blocking westbound traffic on Camp Wisdom Road, waiting for the lanes to clear, when the accident happened. Evans also said that the driver of the white car had been travelling before it crashed into the side of Engine 46.

There was minimal damage to the fire truck as a result of the crash. The driver of the white sedan, however, was taken to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

One of the first lessons that anyone who drives learns is how to share the road with emergency vehicles. There are certain procedures in place to insure that the safety of everyone is insured while the emergency responders can get to their calls safely and quickly. Police cars, ambulances, fire trucks and other types of emergency vehicles also have the potential to be in or even cause accidents. Accidents involving emergency service vehicles can happen for any number of reasons. Some causes of such accidents may include driving at excessive speeds, reckless driving, inadequate training, hazardous weather conditions and driver distraction. No matter what might have caused an accident, the drivers of emergency vehicles are required to take certain precautions to ensure the safety of the public just like every other driver on the road. Even though emergency vehicles such as police cars and ambulances are not are not required to stop at all red lights when responding to an emergency call, their sirens and warning lights must be on. First responders, however, do not have such allowances in terms of traffic safety.
