Fatal Boating Accident Kills Both Drivers

    fatal-boating-accident-kills-both-drivers

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens are currently investigating a fatal boating accident that occurred on Monday night at Lake Fork.

According to a statement issued by authorities, two vessels collided around 8:45 p.m. Monday night, killing both boat drivers. A passenger on board one of the vessels involved in the crash was severely injured and was transported by helicopter to a Dallas area hospital.

One of the two boats involved in the collision sank at the scene of the accident. Divers will be on site to raise the vessel using specialized lift bags.

The names of the victims have not yet been released pending notification of the families.

Time on the water and enjoying leisure activities should be fun. The last thing on your mind is any notion that you or a loved one could possibly be involved in a boating accident. Water safety, unfortunately, is often an afterthought.

There can be any number of causes that can lead to a boating accident. Most of these are completely preventable. Whether you are on a private boat, a jet ski or other type of water going vessel, the unexpected can happen.

Some of the causes for boating accidents can include:

    • Driving under the influence of alcohol (DWI)
    • An inexperienced operator or operator error
    • Vessel or equipment failure
    • Unfavorable water and/or weather conditions

Of course, the law places the responsibility for safety on the owner of a boat or vessel to take proper precautions and to insure the safety of all of the passengers aboard or anyone else who might be in the vicinity. Swimmers, other boats and vessels, and stationary objects on the waterway are all things to be aware of at all times. But even when a boat owner or passengers have taken every precaution to insure the safety of the vessel and everyone on board, accidents can happen.
