Being stranded on the roadway with a disabled car can be terrifying. Because traffic on busy streets, highways, freeways and interstates tends to move very fast, it can also be extremely dangerous for any motorist who finds themselves stranded on a high speed roadway. In an emergency situation where someone is broken down or has been in an accident, it is considered extremely dangerous for pedestrians to walk on such busy thoroughfares.

In the state of Texas, it is considered illegal for pedestrians to be on such high-speed motorways. If you are in a situation where your vehicle has broken down or has had an accident while in the middle of traffic, if you are able, call 911 and put on your emergency flashers so that other drivers are able to see your vehicle and can adjust to avoid the hazard.

It is wise to stay inside of your vehicle until help can arrive. Law enforcement or another emergency service vehicle can help to get you and your vehicle safely off the road and slow traffic down to help other motorists to avoid also being involved in your accident as well. Even when every precaution has been taken, however, accidents can still happen.
