The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “Est. 34715” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. The products were produced on Dec. 5, 2013, and distributed to retail stores and restaurants in Arizona, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico and Texas.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products and the recall is a precautionary measure. .Signs of possible poisoning can develop in a matter of hours or days. Initial signs of infection are diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting. Positive identification of an E. coli infection involves testing a stool sample.

Most who are infected do recover in a relatively short amount of time within about a week. In rare cases, however, some people may develop a more severe infection and can occur in people of any age. More severe cases do tend to be most prevalent in children under 7 years of age or adult with weakened immune systems. A more severe infection will be marked by easy bruising, pallor and decreased urine output. Persons who experience these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.

FSIS advises that all consumers properly and safely prepare their raw meat products and to only consume meat that has been cooked to a temperature of 145° F with a 3-minute rest time. The only way to confirm that meat has in fact been cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is by using a food thermometer.
