A 4-year-old girl from Plano has died in a weekend automobile accident on the Central Expressway over the weekend.
According to the Plano Police Department, a pickup truck was traveling in the left lane of northbound 75 near Legacy Drive when traffic stopped abruptly. The pickup swerved into the HOV lane to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of it, but instead the vehicle struck a sedan that was in the HOV lane.
According to witnesses and police reports, the sedan travelled along the concrete barrier before striking a light pole, coming to rest upside down on the roof of the vehicle.
The 4-year-old girl was in the sedan and was transported to a hospital with injuries sustained in the accident. She later died as a result of her injuries. Three others in the sedan suffered minor injuries. While no one who was in the pickup truck was injured.
Police indicate that everyone in both vehicles was wearing seat belts or in proper child restraints and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
